Blue Lace Agate Gold Vermeil Bracelet I (12mm)
The ancients called it the stone of the cooling air. The Victorians wore it to find their voice.
Product Highlights:
- The Stone: Millions of years of history. Blue Lace Agate is a rare variety of banded chalcedony. Its delicate, sky-blue ribbons are formed as silica-rich groundwater slowly seeps into cavities in volcanic rock, depositing microcrystalline quartz layer by layer. The white and blue lace patterns are a geological record of shifting mineral concentrations over eons. These 12mm beads are substantial and translucent, set with eight ornate, filigree-style vermeil gold beads.
- History: Agate is among the oldest stones used for healing and ornament, first discovered by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus along the Achates River. While most agates were used for strength and protection, Blue Lace Agate was historically prized for its rarity. In the 19th century, it became a favorite of lapidaries in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, who mastered the art of carving it into delicate bowls and cameos. It was particularly popular in the Victorian era, where the “language of gems” dictated that blue lace stood for tranquility and a clear message.
- The Belief: In modern crystal practice, Blue Lace Agate is a throat chakra stone, associated with communication, articulation, and public speaking. It is known as a stone of diplomacy, believed to help the wearer remain calm and find the right words under pressure. In African folklore, where much of the world’s finest blue lace is sourced (specifically from Namibia), it is considered a stone of peace that can cool hot emotions. It has been carried by leaders and speakers for centuries to ensure their words carry weight and grace.
- Vermeil Gold: The gold elements are crafted from heavy vermeil. This is a solid sterling silver base coated in 3.5 microns of pure 24kt gold, making it about seven times thicker than standard gold plating. Because we use pure 24kt gold over silver instead of a thin layer over brass, the color is richer and highly durable. If it wears over time, it reveals solid silver beneath, developing character rather than looking cheap. Vermeil has been the standard for premium jewelry since 18th century France.
